Your warehouse relocation, step by step

From the first conversation to the final handover: what to plan, where MTLI can help and what your team brings to each stage.

A planning guide based on MTLI's published capabilities, not a fixed delivery schedule or a completed project account. Stages may overlap. MTLI confirms responsibilities, approvals and timing for your project.

  1. 1

    Define the move

Agree what is moving and what the business needs to keep operating.

MTLI's role and what to prepare
    MTLI's role
Review the proposed inventory, equipment, racking and facility scope with Chris and MTLI's Moving & Liquidation team.
    Your team brings
Current and destination locations, target move date, operating hours, asset list and key constraints.
    Checkpoint
A shared scope to develop into a project-specific plan.
  2. 2

    Assess both facilities

Identify constraints before equipment or inventory starts moving.

MTLI's role and what to prepare
    MTLI's role
Assess the disassembly, handling, transport and reinstallation scope, including supporting trades where needed.
    Your team brings
Layouts, access restrictions, equipment information and receiving-site readiness.
    Checkpoint
    Known site dependencies and responsibilities.
  3. 3

    Plan the sequence

Coordinate the move around production and shipping requirements.

MTLI's role and what to prepare
    MTLI's role
Develop a phased relocation approach and coordinate the agreed moving, racking, automation and trade scopes.
    Your team brings
Critical shipping windows, acceptable disruption, priorities and customer-side decision makers.
    Checkpoint
An agreed sequence; the actual schedule depends on the site and scope.
  4. 4

    Prepare the receiving site

Make the destination ready to accept the assets being moved.

MTLI's role and what to prepare
    MTLI's role
Coordinate agreed installation and supporting facility work. Discuss interim storage if the receiving site is not ready.
    Your team brings
Site access, readiness updates and confirmation of required approvals and utilities.
    Checkpoint
Receiving-site readiness confirmed for the next phase.
  5. 5

    Disassemble, transport and transfer

Move the agreed assets in the planned order.

MTLI's role and what to prepare
    MTLI's role

What we look for when scoping your move

These are the details that shape an accurate scope and estimate. The more of this you can bring to the first conversation, the faster the planning goes.

Entry and exit points

Loading docks, elevators, stairs, long carries, truck parking and access, and any restricted hours at both the existing and new locations. Accessibility can significantly change the labour required.

Complete inventory

Ideally a full list of everything being moved. If there is no inventory, floor plans of the existing and proposed locations are very helpful.

Headcount

If a detailed inventory is not available, the total headcount being relocated gives a starting point for estimating volume.

Workstation count

For office relocations, the number and type of workstations matters, especially if they need dismantling and reinstallation. As a rough budgeting starting point, around $450 per workstation covers dismantling, transportation and rebuilding at the new location.

Electrical and data requirements

Whether electricians are needed for disconnecting and reconnecting power, electrical whips and powered furniture, and whether data and IT work is in scope or handled separately.

Wall-mounted items

TVs, whiteboards, artwork, shelving, monitors, cabinets and anything else that needs to be unmounted and remounted.

Printers, copiers and specialty equipment

Larger equipment may be leased, and the leasing company may need to relocate it rather than the moving team.

Miscellaneous items

Filing cabinets, storage rooms, boardrooms, kitchens, meeting rooms, lockers, shelving, contents and boxes, and plants can add significant volume beyond the workstation count.

Start with the essentials

Bring your current and destination locations, target date, asset list and operating constraints. Engineering, permits, specialist handling and acceptance requirements are confirmed for the actual scope, not assumed from this guide.
